I'd never heard of this movie before finding it on Prime. (I must have been hiding under a rock when it came out.) I decided to watch it because it starred Robert Redford. I don't know if it got any awards, but Redford should have gotten an Oscar and the film should have gotten Best Picture. It made me both proud to have donned the uniform, and a little ashamed that we as a people can be so petty at the same time. I loved the underlying message that if we treat people with dignity and kindness, we can bring out the best in them, excluding sociopaths of course, which clearly included the Colonel. SPOILER ALERT - I found it ironic when the Colonel Winter read the General Irwin's crime out to the populace then warned them that blindly following a man motivated by reproducible get them killed. It was obvious foreshadowing of what happened in the uprising and the men who died blindly following the Colonel's orders. He had a chance to avoid the entire conflict, but he was too prideful sicario putlocker to admit that he couldn't control General Irwin. Of course, like most tyrants, he felt he was above the law and was too arrogant to believe that he could ever lose control and that others would hold him accountable. Finally, I want to give a shout out to Corporal Aguilar. He was such a great character and despite the fact that I just knew it was coming, I was gutted when he was shot. I found it hard to believe that with the three investigations into Colonel Winter no one called into question the questionable head shots with rubber bullets by expert marksmen. At the very least, I would expect the military to recommend additional training, but the cynic in me is unsurprised los movies that no one cares about a bunch of prisoners. It's what makes them such perfect victims.
